Officials have identified the toddler who was fatally shot Thursday in Allentown’s East Side.

Elijah Abreu Borgen, 3, died after he was shot in the 900 block of East Hamilton Street, according to Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio.

Elijah was shot about noon Thursday. He was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, where he died from his injuries about 45 minutes later.

An autopsy Friday morning showed his cause of death was a gunshot wound to the body, Buglio said. His manner of death is pending investigation.

Authorities have not released details on what led to the shooting. Online court records do not indicate that any charges have been filed connected to it either.

Allentown police said in a Thursday afternoon news release that officers responded to the home for a report of the shooting and found Elijah suffering from a gunshot wound. They provided first aid to him before he was taken to the hospital.

Outside of that news release, no additional information has been released. Capt. Kyle Pammer said Friday morning that the investigation is still active and ongoing.

The Lehigh County Homicide Task Force, the Lehigh County district attorney’s office and the Lehigh County coroner’s office are assisting in the investigation.
