UPDATED:

A Giant supermarket will move from its current location in Allentown to the South Mall in Salisbury Township in 2025.

The company announced in a news release Tuesday that the new store and fuel station will open in a vacated section within the shopping center. Once the new store is completed, the current store and gas station at 3015 W. Emmaus Ave. in Allentown will close.

Construction is tentatively scheduled to start in 2025. Additional information on the new location will be available later.

“After 35 years at our current location on West Emmaus Avenue, it’s time to grow our store footprint and move a little further up the road,” The Giant Company President John Ruane said in the release. “A larger and updated store will allow us to offer our Allentown area families the latest amenities while underscoring our commitment to providing our customers with great value, the best quality and friendly service they’ve come to expect from Giant.”

The 68,000-square-foot location will be where the Bon-Ton used to be, according to mall management. That store closed in 2018.

James Balliet, president of The James Balliet Property Group, which handles leasing at the shopping center, said the old Bon-Ton will be demolished and the Giant will be built there. The Giant will be smaller than the Bon-Ton.

Balliet said there remains a lot of business interest in the South Mall.

Giant has seven supermarkets in Lehigh County, according to the company.
