Valentine’s Day is around the corner, and for many, that means a day of love, sweet treats — and stress. There’s a lot of pressure to get the perfect gift to convey how much you love your special someone, whether they be romantic, platonic, familial or simply a person who brightens your day.

May we suggest something sweet? While Halloween and Easter reign supreme in candy, Valentine’s Day offers the chance to impress your beloved with fancier sugary treats that are less so-sweet-it-hurts-your-teeth and more wow-worthy.

Here is a list of Lehigh Valley sweetmakers who are offering Valentine’s Day desserts that will certainly woo your Valentine.

For the Valentine who’s a vegan… and a little goth

Vegan Treats’ Fatally Yours Collection

The award-winning vegan bakery in Bethlehem has debuted a special collection of chocolates themed “Fatally Yours.” Horror imagery like skulls, black hearts and tombstones get cloaked in cruelty-free chocolate and other animal-free sweets to create a seductively sinister pack of unique chocolates. If you’re looking for something more Valentine’s-y, though, don’t despair: the shop also sells more lighthearted fare, such as a line of darkly comic chocolates in heart-shaped boxes with messages like “You’ll Do.” For more information, check out /.

For the Valentine who loves to sample

Historic Bethlehem Chocolate Trail

If your Valentine is a true chocoholic, consider this trail. At $40 per ticket, each participant gets the chance to explore historic downtown Bethlehem and sample chocolate Feb. 10 or 17, then vote on who makes the best chocolate in the area. Democracy was never so sweet. More information can be found at /.

For the Valentine who’s more a cookie monster than a chocoholic

Hayden’s Confections

There’s no shame in preferring chomping on cookies over chocolate. This local business prides itself in making decorated sugar cookies.
