Man, woman dead after being hit by vehicle in Allentown

A man and a woman died early Sunday after being hit by a motor vehicle in Allentown, according to the Lehigh County coroner’s office.

Allentown police, fire and emergency services responded at 1:15 a.m. to the 300 block of West Hamilton Street and found the unidentified pedestrians injured. They were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, where both died from their injuries, police said. The driver of the car, also unidentified, was uninjured.

The families of both pedestrians, identified as Jane Doe, 43, and John Doe, 44, by the coroner’s office, have been notified, but their identities were not released by the coroner to give families time to grieve, according to a news release.

Jane Doe was pronounced dead at 1:56 a.m. John Doe was pronounced dead at 2:44 a.m., the coroner’s office said.

The accident is under investigation by the Allentown Police Traffic Reconstruction Unit, Lehigh County district attorney’s office and the coroner’s office.
