The driver of a sports car that crashed along Route 22, seriously injuring his passenger four years ago, admitted responsibility in the crash this week.

Alfredo Delgado Jr., 44, of North Whitehall Township pleaded guilty Wednesday to aggravated assault, a felony, and a misdemeanor of drunken driving, for the September 2019 crash that caused his passenger to eject from the vehicle in Hanover Township, Lehigh County.

State police said Delgado’s blood alcohol content was .12% when he crashed his 2018 McLaren 720S into a box truck about 3:30 a.m. Sept. 19, 2019, on Route 22 West near Airport Road. Investigators determined he was driving 117 mph at the time of the crash.

His passenger, Kelsey Gibson, 30, was thrown from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries. She was initially left in the intensive care unit for treatment of her injuries.

Delgado failed field sobriety tests at the scene, and a breath test showed he had been drinking. Lab tests confirmed he had a blood alcohol content of .12%, over the legal limit to drive in Pennsylvania of .08%, according to authorities.

Police filed charges more than a year after the crash.

Delgado remains free on $100,000 bail. He is scheduled to be sentenced in January.

His attorney did not return a message seeking comment Thursday.

Gibson in 2019 sued Delgado as well as bars that allegedly served him. The case remains open in Northampton County Court and has been continued until next year.
